Budget 2015: It’s about what’s missing
14 May 2015
Australia invests a vast amount in education, but the complexity of Australia’s federal system limits the impact of this investment and contributes to entrenched access difficulties and iniquitous outcomes.
The Mitchell Institute believes a better-designed, future-focused federal system is needed to meet the complex education and training challenges we face as a nation. With the right settings, Australia’s federal system can offer great opportunities for policy innovation and customisation to drive dramatic and sustained improvements in both spheres.
Our federalism research program investigates how education can be transformed through a more intelligent allocation of responsibilities between governments and other entities, smarter institutions and productive collaboration. The ultimate goal of our work in this area is healthy, thriving, connected communities with real opportunities for all.
